About Winding Roads
Winding Roads is a fundraising initiative consisting of a music festival and concert series brought to you by the youth “littles” of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Durham (BBBSND). During setup of the events, the “littles” have the chance to learn about the live production industry under the mentorship of music industry professionals and performing musicians. All proceeds generated from the live events will help raise money for mentorship programs of BBBSND.
Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies offer a range of mentoring programs to meet the needs of Canadian children and families. In the traditional one-to-one mentoring programs, one youth and one adult mentor meet 3 to 4 hours per week for at least one year.
Mentors help kids build self-esteem and life skills. They promote positive values like courage, integrity, and responsibility. They act as an advocate and source of support. Mentoring has a BIG impact. Every dollar spent on Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring generates a $18 return on investment through better schools, employment, health and civic engagement outcomes for kids.
Youth education and mentorship is the underlying theme that unites BBBSND with the Winding Roads program. The series will provide opportunities for “littles” to experience production under guidance from the team that has designed systems for Drake, Imagine Dragons and Shawn Mendes. It will give “littles” the chance to glimpse at a possible future in the music industry, all while participating in the execution of a fundraising event that helps fund mentorship programs designed for the youth of BBBSND. Artists that perform in the evening’s fundraising event will be asked to speak to the “littles” during a private sound check, where they will share insight into building a career in musical performance.
